GREENSBORO, N.C. – Leaves are piling up around Greensboro, but the city’s loose leaf collection program doesn’t start until November 13.
The city doesn’t have any plans to start the program earlier. James Steber with Greensboro’s Field Operations says historical data had showed them that mid-November is when most of the leaves have fallen. Plus, it’s when people do the most raking.
“Leaf season is so unpredictable. I mean some years we collect 8,000 tons them sometimes we collect 13,000 like we did last year,” Steber said.
Sybil Davis lives on Guida Drive in Greensboro. Davis said she just moved here from Daytona Beach and the leaves are overwhelming.
“In Florida we only have Oak leaves and that’s it,” Davis said. “Less work picking them up is always better.”
The loose leaf program runs from Nov. 13 to Jan. 26.
