HIGH POINT, N.C.–There’s no doubt in Dana Shamberger’s mind that she made the right decision to send her daughter to the Academy at Central Magnet School.
“My daughter is a Sophomore and the educational opportunities have been phenomenal,” Shamberger said.
However, Shamberger is hoping the Guilford County School Board will address the school’s need for another building.
“We’ve been voting for them to get us a new building,” Shamberger said.
Shamberger says the school is missing the basic essentials other schools already have like a media center, library and cafeteria .
One proposal suggests the district purchase the Immaculate Heart of Mary School building on Barbee Avenue in High Point. IHM students will be moved to another location in High Point this summer.
Guilford County School Board member Ed Price says it has everything Academy at Central students need, but the decision to move students will come down to money.
“It’s always about being able to financially do things,” Price said.
Guilford County School Board members have a scheduled a meeting for Tuesday, but the district did not say whether it would take up the issue.
