GREENSBORO, N.C.–Multiple fights, gunfire and vandalism Saturday night and early Sunday morning have led Greensboro City leaders to reconsider bringing back a teen curfew.

Greensboro City Councilman Zack Matheny said the curfew could be geared towards  anyone 17-years-old and under.

The curfew would ban teens from the streets of downtown Greensboro from 11 p.m. to 7 a.m. Matheny didn’t specify what days the curfew would apply, however, if caught, teens could be arrested.

“We’ve got to protect the people of Greensboro and the future of this city,” Matheny said.

Greensboro Police plan to add up to 50 officers downtown through the weekend, and new traffic restrictions will also be put into place.

Traffic along Elm St. will be converted to one lane between Lee and Lindsay Streets from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m.

Greensboro Police are still trying to figure out why the teens were downtown. They’re investigating claims of neighborhood and school rivalries.

Eleven people were arrested Saturday night, including a person accused of vandalizing Bryson’s Jewelers on Elm Street.

Greensboro City Council members will hold the meeting on Wednesday at 9:30 a.m. at City Hall.
