GREENSBORO, N.C.– Several people in the Madison Farms Community are anxious after a rabid fox bit a two-year-old girl in her backyard Friday afternoon.
The family of the girl says she was in the pool at her home on Madison Farms Road with a few other children, when the fox came out the woods and bit her hand.
Brian English, a family friend, tried to catch the animal.
“It was moving so fast. Once I approached it ran over the next house and just took off,” English said.
The Guilford County Health Department says the fox also bit a dog on Alamance Church Road. The dog then killed the fox.
A spokesperson said the animal was taken to Chapel Hill, where it was determined to have rabies.
People are asked to report stray animals acting strangely to the Department of Public Health.
If you are bitten by a stray animal, you should wash the area with soap and water immediately and seek medical attention.
State law requires all domestic pets, four months and older, be vaccinated for rabies.
The Department of Public Health will host a number of rabies clinics in the coming weeks.
