ASHEBORO, N.C. – A group of home-school students are glad to be home after being stuck in New York after Sandy made landfall.
All year the Central Carolina Homeschoolers Mock Trial Team waited to go to New York and Last Friday they boarded a plane from Asheboro and headed up to the big apple.
It’s the first time the group had competed in an invitational for teenagers who are aspiring to be judges and lawyers.
As Hurricane Sandy approached the group’s trip was cut short.
Team Leader Alice Boyette says they stayed in the Marriott Hotel in Brooklyn.
“We were scared out of lives, but we kept praying and believing that God was going to make a way,” Boyette said.
After trying to get a flight, or even a ride via Amtrak, the groups prayers were answered when a Holiday Tours bus was able to travel to NY and pick the group up.
“They sent a driver who was familiar with New York and he came and got us,” Boyette said.
On Wednesday the group arrived safe and sound back to Asheboro.
Even though they didn’t finish the competition, the group wants to compete in New York City next year.
