GREENSBORO, N.C.–It’s been around for over 50 years, and the Greensboro Youth Council’s Carnival is still one of Greensboro’s main events.

Close to 50,000 people pack the Greensboro Coliseum for six days of food, fun and entertainment.

However, this year police have added extra security after 18-year-old Michael Felka was shot and killed in the carnival’s parking lot last year. Another teen was charged with his murder.

Greensboro Police will patrol every entrance and exit at the carnival and undercover officers will walk the grounds, as well.

Sgt. MJ Harris with the Greensboro Police Department says the main goal is to keep everyone safe.

“This is a family event and we want to keep it that way,” Harris said.

The GYC Carnival is the largest youth run event in North Carolina.

The Carnival wraps up on May 12.

Admission ranges from $3.00-$5.00.
